WELCOME HOME CAKE

This past week I made this welcome home cake, topped with a cute decoration to make it look a bit more festive! The cake was chocolate with a fresh mint buttercream frosting. The decoration on top is called " bunting" and I'm seeing it all over Pinterest, I love the look of it and it was so easy to make! The frosting was a bit of a last minute change but I'm really happy with how it turned out, reminds me of hydrangea flowers! I think my next cake will be lemon with purple lavender buttercream to match the color of the flowers, getting ready for spring!

ST VALENTINES

Happy Valentine's Day!

ROSE RUFFLES & CHOCOLATE

Last weekend I had a request to make dessert for a dinner party,
so with Valentines day coming up I wanted to make something that would look lovely and sweet
and I think the ruffled buttercream was perfect for that. On top of that the actual buttercream
was flavoured with rose, again very fitting for this month! The actual cake was chocolate and
I used swiss buttercream for this, which is my favorite not only taste wise but also to
decorate my cakes with. I loved playing with the frosting of this cake and trying out
another piping technique!

WEDDING CAKE - VANILLA

This weekend I made my first wedding cake - it was not for a wedding
but to celebrate one that happened 58 years ago. The anniversary party was small,
so as per usual I wanted make something small, simple and of course pretty!
This cake was 6" with 3" top tier, both the cake and the frosting were vanilla.

MINI CHRISTMAS DONUTS

Early December I made some mini donuts for a Christmas party.
The red velvet were stacked into a Christmas tree and the green sprinkled
donuts were mint chocolate flavour. The third flavour I made was lemon, which turned
out to be a favourite! These were perfect little treats for a cocktail party where everyone
just needed something small to go with their drinks.

SALTED CARAMEL CHOCOLATE CAKE

This is another salted caramel chocolate cake I made,
the salted caramel buttercream is one of my favourites.
This is quite a trendy flavour combination right now!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas! Here is a gingerbread chocolate cake
I made for a Christmas dinner last weekend.
It was topped with vanilla buttercream, filled with gingerbread buttercream
and decorated with little sugar snowflakes, which added a nice crunch.

RED VELVET MINI DONUT CHRISTMAS TREE

These are red velvet mini donuts with cream cheese frosting.
I made these as a trial run for a christmas party happening next Friday for which
I'm making 3 of these Christmas tree's. I was really happy with the way these turned out
(found out no taste red food color is key) For the party I will be making these, mint chocolate
one's (which will be green) and lemon (which will be white), which I got some edible pearl dust for,
I'm hoping it'll add a nice iridescent glow to the white icing. So excited to try it!
Pictures to come next weekend!

CHRISTMAS IS A-COMING!

In anticipation of the holiday season, every year since moving
to Canada from Finland, I've gone to Ikea to get my christmas drink fix!
I call it "glogi" but it's better known as mulled wine. While I was at Ikea I was excited
to find gingerbread dough in their freezer section, which was perfect because
I recently bought these cute cookie cutters that I've been wanting to try out.
Mulled wine + gingerbread cookies = Christmas anticipation at it's best!

LEMON & LAVENDER MINI DONUTS

This weekend I made some mini donuts for a bridal shower.
These two are lavendar and lemon flavoured.
I used this recipe with some minor modifications.
You wouldn't know from the picture, but these are tiny!
I think these would be great for a cocktail party or a dessert table.

THANKSGIVING PUMPKIN CUPCAKES

For Thanksgiving dinner,  I of course had to make something with pumpkin,
soI did these cute little pumpkin cupcakes. I used this recipe for the cake,
some of them are topped with chocolate buttercream
and the rest have cinnamon cream cheese frosting.

RASBERRY FILLED SUGAR COOKIES

I made these sugar cookies to go with a flourless chocolate cake.
Sandwhiched between two cookies is some seedless raspberry jam.
I used the same recipe as I did for the wedding cake cookies.
I think these would be perfect with a glass milk!

SALTED CARAMEL CHOCOLATE CAKE

I made a birthday cake tonight, this is what I have left so it must have been good!
It wasa chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercreme filling,
the outside buttercreme I added some melted chocolate in.
I used this recipe. I made my first batch of caramel for this
and I really liked the salty sweet taste of this cake. Yum!

MINI PUMPKIN BUNDT CAKES

Now that summer is officially over I can finally get a jump start on my holiday baking,
so I made a test batch of these pumpkin cakes last night!
I glazed some of them with lemon icing like in the recipe, but I think next time
I'll just sprinkle them with a bit of icing sugar. The problem I had with these was that I had
12 little molds and a whole lot of batter = hours in the kitchen.
My conclusion, must find more cake molds.
However, these made a tasty treat with my morning coffee!

ROYAL ICING RIBBON ROSES

While I learned how to make royal icing here
I also found out how easy it is to make these pretty ribbon roses
It's the same recipe as the royal icing, just a thicker version,
and you can make them any colour you want.
They take some practice, but you do get the hang of it after a while!
These will be great to decorate cupcakes, cookies and cakes with!

MINIATURE WEDDING CAKES

This week I made sugar cookies for the first time, and I can't wait to make more now!
These were shaped like little wedding cakes and one the cutest things I've ever seen!
Although time consuming, these were surprisingly easy to make, I used this recipe for
the cookies and this for the royal icing.
It was really fun experimenting with different decorations for these,
this time I decorated them to look like wedding cakes with white frosting,
but these could be decorated to look like little birthday cakes too, which would be so cute!
The largest cookie is about 3" in diameter.
I also decorated some of the medium sized cookies with a wedding theme.
These cookies were pretty tasty, but next time I want to try adding
some lemon or maybe lavender into the batter, which I think would taste amazing!

MINI CUPCAKES

This week I made some mini cupcakes.
I made 4 flavours, mint chocolate, lavender, lemon and chocolate vanilla.
I used swiss buttercreme to frost all of these, but added some colour/flavour to some of them
I used this recipe, the whole post by Sweetapolita is full of great information!
The chocolate cupcakes were made using this and the vanilla batter which I added
lemon zest/lavendar to, was this recipe.

LAVENDER CUPCAKES WITH HONEY BUTTERCREAM

These are mini lavender cupcakes, I made the cake using this recipe,
but I wanted to do buttercreme for the frosting so I made a simple
swiss buttercreme and added some honey to it.
I tried a Wilton 2D tip to make a rose shape with the frosting.

MINI MOCHA BUNDT CAKES

I made these bite sized chocolate cakes topped with a mocha glaze and a sprinkle of icing sugar.
I made the cake using this recipe, the glaze was a simple mix of cocoa powder, coffee and icing sugar.
I think I'll be remaking these around Christmas with crushed candy cane on top!
